Having some prior Fitness, Dance, Martial Arts / Self Defence / Krav Maga experience will obviously be advantageous for this course but it is not essential. So, as long as you are reasonably fit, injury free & able bodied you’ll be fine.““
WHAT CAN I EXPECT TO GAIN FROM THIS COURSE ?
This course is designed to give you enough knowledge to set up your own self defence courses and to start delivering basic Krav Maga lessons. We say basic Krav Maga lessons because on this course all being well, you will qualify as a Self Defence Instructor & a Krav Maga Instructor who is able to deliver the basic level Krav Maga syllabus.
The basic syllabus (yellow and orange belt) is the first syllabus taught to new Krav Maga students and to progress beyond teaching this you will need to attend higher level training or be promoted by a BAKM Director of Training going forward.
1st Day 14:00 – 17:00 Intro to teaching methods, skill acquisition, self defence theory, basic striking / kicking, first self defence techniques from KM syllabus.
2nd Day 09:00 – 17:00 Recap of day 1, refresh previous techniques, informal teaching practice, intro to knife / gun defences, cover syllabus.
3rd Day 09:00 – 17:00 Recap of day 2, refresh previous techniques, basic ground techniques, more syllabus.
4th Day 09:00 – 16:00 More self defence techniques, syllabus training & formal teaching practice and assessment. Certificate presentation.
The highest grade we can issue is red belt & we normally only see the most exceptional students attaining this grade as generally speaking most trainees attain orange. Read here for further details about grading & school philosophy.
To join a course simply choose your self defence / KM instructor course date from the list and follow the instructions
This rarely happens but If you fail, you can come onto part or all of the next course for free. We will tell you what you need to work on before attempting again
Being fit and healthy would obviously be an advantage on this course but it is not needed at this stage. However, we may advise you to improve your fitness within your debrief if you wish to progress further
The accommodation options in London are too numerous to mention with a broad price range of hostels, hotels & Airbnb venues to choose from.
So, rather than list a number of properties here we would rather recommend you note the studio training postcode SW8 2LD and search online to satisfy your budget / accommodation expectations.
Courses are run on a quarterly basis so that should a participant be injured, or unable to take a particular section of a course due to work commitments or simply not up to speed with the course for example, then they may re-attend another later phase for free (up to re-attending a maximum of 2 courses) at a later date.
The course can also be taken as a private training option if the dates shown do not work with your diary, on a private individual or small group basis (up to 4 persons). We are normally able to cover the course syllabus in 3 to 4 days if this is what you want. However, please note that the pricing for private training would obviously be based on our normal private training rates and cost of studio hire and charged by the hour & at a mutually convenient location date and time.
Day 1. Here’s Where Your Training Begins..
After registration and course orientation we start you off on some basic self defence techniques and cover some self defence theory. The first day is about easing you in and getting to know each other – so nothing too stressful on this day.
Days 2. Putting It Into Practice…
You will now have the opportunity to experience first hand our popular 3 day Self Defence / Krav Maga course. Essentially you will be both student and trainee instructor and through participation, observation and hands-on participation, coupled with informal teaching practice you will get a feel for what it takes to run a class or course.
Days 3 & 4. Basic Krav Maga Syllabus, Techniques & Teaching Practice, Testing, Debrief & Certification…
After recapping day 2, you will now start practising & teaching the “defender” syllabus to either ourselves or attending students and will be able to understand & extol the differences between sport orientated martial arts & self defence and learn to draw up lesson plans, make adaptations to techniques and break techniques down for ease of assimilation before being taught the teaching, practical execution and physical training methodology that is unique to the British Academy of Krav Maga before finally (after some tests) receive your certificate and advice in regards to setting up, marketing and promoting your own course or courses going forward.
Upon successful completion of the course we will add your name to our list of qualified instructors and you will be able to teach both regular Krav Maga classes and self defence courses as a qualified Self Defence & Krav Maga Instructor (teaching the Krav Maga Defender Syllabus)
If you set up & teach regular classes then you are classed as a school and we will link to your school from our website and allow you to use the BAKM logo.
You will be sent a list of equipment requirements prior to your course but just to be sure here is a recommended list:
A notebook and pen (for the theory aspects)
Snacks to keep you going & water to keep you hydrated.
A sweat towel (as you will perspire now and then)
A personal first aid kit (you are training to be an instructor after all)
12 to 20 ounce boxing gloves
Sparring style MMA gloves
Boxing bandages / wraps (or quick to put) on gel wraps
A groin protector
Shin guards, head guard & mouth guard
Flat soled style trainers or even better a pair of wrestling shoes
Spare T shirts & deodorant
Normal Running Trainers
Loose fitting track suit bottoms (kick boxing style trousers)
If you book a course and cannot make it then we can offer you an alternative date if the one you booked does not suit for whatever reason. You just need to let us know which alternative date/s suit and we can make the change. We will not, however, refund payment for a course as we do offer a choice of replacement course dates should you not be able to attend.
In short – yes we do. For anyone who expresses this view we will also put you through our 1 day self defence for women course which essentially means you’ll be starting your first day at 9am to attend the course with a break between that and the start of the self defence instructor course. We do this to give you an outline of how we run our bespoke self defence for women courses before you then continue with your course with everyone else. If this interests you, just email to let us know you would like .to attend this course prior to your respective instructor course.
